Surface design is an Art & Design course at NC State that involves a wide variety of techniques and materials to change the appearance of fabric/fibers both with repeat patterns and without. Materials used include color concentrate (pigment), fiber reactive dye, natural dye, and acid dye.  Some of the techniques learned are direct application, screen printing, and dyeing (direct application, batch, resists, even application, etc.) The product of this course is the learned knowledge of a variety of techniques and many different samples with notes on how to achieve a desired effect.
